Aqueduct - Jaguar Commercial

(music on tv)

Aqueduct
Jaguar Commercial

[Barsuk Records]

A long time ago, I had been informed of the up-and-coming band Aqueduct by a web friend who lived in Oklahoma. Then a few days ago I came across some of their songs on the web and listened again. One song in particular seemed to stick out… it was Hardcore Days and Softcore Nights.

What struck me most about this song is that it seemed to be a cross mutation between the Folk Implosion and Rolling Stones “As Tears Go By”. Very weird indeed for starters, but not a bad song. Sort of the type that grows on you. Though, I didn’t like their other song Growing Up With GNR as much, I resolved to keep an ear out for them.

Then a few days ago I had the TV and was idly listening to it while doing some work. All of the sudden I heard those same intro chords “dah-DAH-dah… dah-DAH-dah” coming in over a commercial for a red S-Type Jaguar. Talk about coming full circle. I was pretty darn surprised.

Those trademark weird see-saw chords actually really seem to fit with the Jaguar commercial… almost like they were tailor made for it. In fact, if I hadn’t instantly recognized the track, I likely wouldn’t have searched for the song because I’d have thought it was “made-for-tv” music. One reason is that I don’t think that much of the lyrics (if any) appear in the TV version of Aqueduct’s song. They basically just play those intro chords along with the drums. [Edit: hm… I just heard the commercial again and it seems they have several versions. Sometimes they actually do include some of the main lyrics “Don’t ever ask me where I go”]

Aqueduct is currently releasing music on the fine Barsuk label…
