Charmparticles
A/O
[Childstar]
Some beautiful atmospheric music from a band called Charmparticles bubbled up to the surface on Soma the other day. The song they played was called “A/O”. I immediately went to check the website to see what samples they had.
This quartet hails from Portland, Oregon and specializes in the reverb driven, billowing type of rock that makes me think of newer bands like Doves and The Delgados as well as pleasantly reminding me of older ones like MBV, Autumns, and The Church.
The fantastically interstellar track “A/O” features graceful female vocals and an immensely poweful chorus. Another track, “Stand Up For Leaving” which is also off their latest EP “Sit Down For Staying” features male vocals but is just as deliciously drony, almost creamy in feel. They certainly know how to create a soundscape or two.
I went to listen to some songs off their earlier 2002 Scenic EP and was struck by how much These Are Your Walking Papers reminded me of My Bloody Valentine with the bent guitar notes. But I really like the shoegaze sound, new OR old, so this was pretty cool.
