Earlimart
It's OK To Think About Ending
[House MD]
The other day I was idly flipping channels on the TV as we all do when I came to rest on Channel 11 (which is FOX Broadcasting is my neck of the woods). My finger was hovering over the remote button ready to move on when I recognized the soft strains of Aaron Espinoza’s voice coming through. The show was House MD and I’d never watched it before but I was sort of surprised to hear them play the Earlimart song “It’s OK To Think About Ending” off their awesome CD Tremble and Tremble.
I did some searching online and found that the episode in question is called “Role Model” (#17) and the song appeared right at the closing scene. So I was sort of lucky to catch it. Kind of cool, and fit the mood pretty well.
In case you are like me and haven’t watched the show before, here is a brief description a la Wikipedia:
[Hugh] Laurie plays Dr. Gregory House, a maverick medical genius who heads a team of young diagnosticians at the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. Despite his abrasive personality, the members of his team remain steadfast in their loyalty, going to extraordinary lengths to accomplish a common task: diagnosing and treating unusual ailments.
The song itself is near the end of the CD and is a really mellow and sort of sad track. If you haven’t checked out Tremble and Tremble yet and if you were a fan of Elliott Smith, I’d suggest you immediately take a listen. The punsters who say that Espinoza picks up the ball where Smith last left us may be saying it just because the album comes across as a sort of tribute (Espinoza was friends with Elliott). The voice resemblance is certainly uncanny at times. But I’ve been watching Earlimart ever since Everyone Down Here came out and I really dig everything I’ve heard from them so far.

You probably already heard Postal Service all over the TV. The music supervisors for TV shows are pretty cool these days. They must be our peers! I heard The Dears and Of Montreal at the department stores in the mall. Yay!

I keep hearing this song in a commercial for HP photo printers that sounds an awful like Apples in Stereo or some related Elephant 6 band… I don’t know what it is though.

If it’s the one I’m thinking of, is it “Picture Book” by The Kinks?

No, it’s not that one… I’ve seen that commercial and know that Kinks song. I’m trying to remember the lyrics for the song, but I need to see the commercial again to remember them. I think it is something like “take a trip…” but I forget at the moment.

I was wondering if you know what the song was called that featured in a recent episode of House md. The episode where the Billionaire became chairman of the board. The song begins with…. Out here in the fields….
I just love it and would like to get a copy but it is hard when you don’t know the name of the song or who sings it.
Thanks

Shell – I actually haven’t gotten to see any more episodes after the initial one where I heard the Earlimart song, sorry! But, just taking a wild guess… I think that is the opening lyric for a song by The Who called “Baba O’Riley”… which is also known as the “Teenage Wasteland” song because the chorus has those words. Just a guess though, don’t quote me on it! =) Try listen to a snippet of it (if you have Itunes, try Baba O’Riley)

Walt – Sorry I’m probably no help since I don’t watch the show. If you haven’t already, you may want to check Adtunes which is a really nice site about music in commercials. I realize it’s commercials, but I’ve seen posts about TV shows once in awhile. I make a visit there once in awhile… the forums are pretty good.
