I don’t know hardly anything about this band Maarten who are a French band. But I’ve heard a few tracks off their album Pictures of a Danish Girl released in 2004 on internet radio and they are quite nice. Soft and lilting pop, like a guy version of Azure Ray at times, or perhaps less folksy Kings of Convenience. The singer actually really reminds me of the vocals of a band called Tahiti 80.

“Pictures of a Danish Girl” features wonderful strings and trumpet against a pastoral acoustic guitar arrangements. This is a very short and compact song, clocking in at less than 2 minutes long but it sure is a beautiful little track.

“The Only Thing I Know” is the other MP3 track available on their website. This is a bit more uptempo, a sort of 6/8 time minor key ditty… this is the song that really did remind me of Tahiti 80. Trumpets make an appearance toward the end of the song again, giving it a bit of a detective feel to it almost.

Marteen is playing a fantastic emotional music. I’ve been dj and radio dj in a lot of different countries and i’m thinking their music can be really loved by a lot of people around the world. It’s original mixing a lot of emotions and feelings. You should try it and feel better after listening to it…
By the way i’m french, a music lover since ages… I love a lot of different styles and Marteen is a real gift for my ears right now !
